Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed cautious optimism on Monday over revisions to a U.S.-drafted peace plan from the Trump administration, saying the updated proposal “looks better” as discussions continue to seek an end to Russia’s nearly four-year conflict.

Zelenskyy made the remarks following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to negotiate the conditions of a potential ceasefire in the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff on Tuesday. Witkoff’s involvement has faced scrutiny after reports surfaced last week that he advised a Russian foreign affairs adviser on how Putin should present the Ukraine peace plan to former President Trump.

Zelenskyy’s visit to Paris followed discussions on Sunday between Ukrainian and U.S. officials, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as productive. The talks aim to amend the previous U.S.-drafted plan, which had drawn criticism for appearing to favour Russian interests.
