The Zambian High Court has ordered the confiscation of $1.3 million worth of assets belonging to former Zambian President Edgar Lungu's son, Daltiso Lungu.

The assets include 79 vehicles, as well as 23 plots of land and real estate in Lusaka, including a shopping mall, a petrol station, modern apartments and a house.

The court said the order was made because 39-year-old Daltiso Lungu failed to provide concrete and verifiable evidence showing how he acquired these assets.

Edgar Lungu, who led Zambia for six years from 2015 to 2019, died in South Africa last year and has not yet been buried due to a dispute between his family and the current government.

The decision against his son follows a long-running feud between Lungu and his successor, President Hakande Hichlema, who won a landslide victory in the 2021 election.

The Hixelma government wants Lungu's remains returned to their country for a full state burial, and a South African court ruled in their favor last August.
