YTL Power International is considering a move into South Africa, exploring opportunities to develop data centers and expand as a power producer.

Executive Director Yeoh Keong Hann said the company aims to enter the market within the next year or two. He added that the South African government has expressed interest in leveraging YTL’s expertise in water management.

The company’s regional ambitions come after YTL was invited to the recently concluded G20 summit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who attended the summit, began a three-country African tour, travelling to Kenya on Monday.

Beyond its Malaysian base, YTL Power operates a power facility in Singapore and manages a water utility in the United Kingdom.
