The World Bank has approved 125 million US dollars in new financing for Liberia to support renewable energy expansion, digital infrastructure development and road connectivity projects, in a package linked to three regional and national programmes.

The funding agreements were signed in Liberia in the presence of President Joseph Boakai, with Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan signing on behalf of the government.

The energy component of the package allocates 57 million US dollars under the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention Project. It will support the expansion of the Mount Coffee Solar Park from 20MWp to 30MWp.

A further 50 million US dollars is earmarked for the Western Africa Regional Digital Integration Program (WARDIP 2), which focuses on expanding broadband connectivity, strengthening cybersecurity systems and digital governance.

Road infrastructure will receive 18 million US dollars through the second additional financing for the Southeastern Corridor Road Asset Management Project. The funds will support completion works along the 100-kilometre Ganta-Tappita corridor.

President Boakai welcomed the financing and thanked the World Bank for continued support, saying the investments align with the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
