The Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) has registered an additional 3,876,031 existing shares of Wegagen Bank S.C., expanding the number of the lender’s securities recognised under the capital market framework. The registration was approved on July 24, 2026, following the submission of the bank’s Registration Statement, in line with Article 75 of the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024.

The newly registered securities add to Wegagen Bank’s previously registered and listed 6,218,635 existing shares, bringing the total number of registered shares to 10,094,666. ECMA said the registration was intended solely to notify the public of the registration of securities and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any offer to sell securities or a solicitation to buy them.

The move comes as financial institutions increasingly prepare to participate in Ethiopia’s emerging capital market, where securities registration is a regulatory requirement before public offering or trading activities. Wegagen Bank, established in 1997, is among Ethiopia’s private commercial banks and has been expanding its capital base and market presence amid reforms aimed at developing the country’s financial sector.
