Venezuela's interim leader has dismissed General Javier Marcano, the head of President Nicolas Maduro's security forces.

The general's dismissal comes days after Nicolas Maduro was taken from Caracas by US forces and brought to trial in New York.

The presidential guard is the military wing responsible for protecting the country's leader.

While the Venezuelan government has not yet publicly acknowledged the casualties caused by the US strike, it is believed that members of the guard were among the mass casualties caused by the US-led campaign to capture Maduro.

Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, has ordered the resignation of General Marcano Tabata and the replacement of him.

Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president on Monday before a National Assembly filled with government loyalists.

Rodriguez, who served as Maduro's deputy, is said to be a close ally of the now-imprisoned president.

US President Donald Trump, in a press conference following Maduro's arrest, said his country was supporting Venezuela and was in contact with Rodriguez.
