The US State Department has announced that business and tourist visa applicants could be asked to post up to $15,000 as a deposit to enter the country.
The pilot program, which is expected to go into effect in two weeks, is aimed at deterring visitors who overstay their visas.
The announcement, issued by the US State Department, is said to make it difficult for many people to enter the country.
According to the federal government's registration announcement, this procedure will be implemented in a pilot program in certain countries over the next 12 months.
The pilot program will begin in countries with citizens who overstay their visas in the United States and countries that have lax controls on domestic documents.
Citizens of these countries may be asked to provide a bond of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 when applying for a visa, it said.
The State Department's announcement comes as the Trump administration tightens requirements for visa applicants to enter the United States.
Since taking office, President Trump has taken steps to deport undocumented immigrants, increase funding to strengthen border controls, and detain individuals who enter the country illegally
In June, the US imposed a travel ban on individuals from 19 countries seeking entry into the US on national security grounds.
