The United States has struck Iranian coastal surveillance sites after intercepting drones near the Strait of Hormuz, as military tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate alongside continued indirect diplomatic negotiations.

US Central Command said it targeted Iranian surveillance installations in Goruk and on Qeshm Island following the downing of four Iranian drones.

Iran responded with missile attacks against US bases in the region, while also firing on four tankers attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz without permission.

Security conditions across the Gulf region deteriorated in parallel. In Bahrain, sirens were activated and residents were instructed to take shelter.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route, remained central to the escalation, with US officials assessing the intercepted drones as threats to maritime traffic in the area.

Despite the intensifying military exchanges, Washington and Tehran continue indirect negotiations aimed at reaching an interim arrangement to pause the three-month conflict.
