The United States has deployed additional military vessels to the Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran, with President Donald Trump’s administration signalling no immediate plans for direct negotiations.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said US forces are prepared to act once the President’s decisions are conveyed. “At this moment, our very large and powerful vessels are heading towards Iran. Utilizing them would be highly beneficial if it becomes necessary,” he told Reuters.

It remains unclear when discussions between Washington and Tehran might take place, as US officials have offered no timeline. When asked about potential dialogue, Hegseth said, “I am currently engaged in this matter.”

Trump has warned that if Iran continues to target opposition forces, the United States will respond with appropriate measures. American officials noted that no final decision has yet been made regarding potential military action.

The escalation follows intensified crackdowns by the Iranian government against domestic opposition amid widespread protests tied to economic decline and political instability.

In June, Israeli and US forces struck a key Iranian nuclear facility. Trump reiterated that Washington is prepared to act if Iran advances its nuclear programme.
