Senator Jim Risch, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has called for intensified efforts to fully implement the Pretoria Peace Agreement.

In a statement posted on the committee’s official X page, Senator Risch said that while the United States helped end the fighting, the agreement “has only been partially implemented so far.”

He also said that Tigray “remains unstable,” adding that “justice has not been provided to victims, and tensions with Eritrea continue.”

The senator added that a secure and peaceful Horn of Africa is essential to American interests, to deter threats from extremist forces, to reassure regional allies, and to provide assistance to the millions of civilians who continue to suffer the effects of the war.

Canada, for its part, called on all parties to fully implement the Ceasefire Agreement (CoHA) and work together to resolve outstanding issues, marking the third anniversary of the agreement.
