The United States has doubled the reward it is offering for information leading to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to $50 million.

Washington has accused the president of being "the world's largest drug trafficker." US President Donald Trump is a long-time critic of Maduro, who has been accused of rigging elections in January.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Washington had doubled the $25 million reward it had previously offered, saying Maduro was directly involved in drug trafficking operations.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil called the new award "sad" and labeled the move "political propaganda."
