U.S. Moves to Revoke Citizenship of 17 Naturalised Individuals Over Alleged Crimes

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed civil denaturalisation actions against 17 naturalised citizens in federal courts, alleging they obtained citizenship through fraud, concealment or misrepresentation while involved in serious criminal conduct.

The cases involve accusations ranging from sexual offences against minors and fraud to drug trafficking and financial crimes.

Under U.S. law, citizenship may be revoked if it was illegally obtained or secured through material misrepresentation. Officials argue the defendants did not meet eligibility requirements, including demonstrating good moral character.

The cases span multiple jurisdictions and were brought with support from immigration agencies and U.S. attorneys’ offices nationwide.
