The US military announced that a senior Pentagon official had arrived in Ukraine to "discuss efforts to end the war."

A delegation led by US Army Chief of Staff Dan Driscoll is expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Thursday.

On Wednesday, reports emerged that the United States and Russia were working on a new peace plan that would require Ukraine to hand over its territories.

Neither Russia nor Washington confirmed the authenticity of the information.

On Wednesday, Russian officials said 26 people were killed in a missile and drone attack on the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

"Driscoll and his delegation arrived in Kiev this morning to meet with Ukrainian officials and discuss efforts to end the fighting," US Army spokesman Colonel David Butler said in a statement.

Heading to the scene with Driscoll were General Randy George, the commander of US forces in Europe, General Chris Donahue, and the chief of staff of the Army, Michael Wymer.
