U.S. lawmakers are sharply divided over the contours of a potential agreement linked to efforts to end the Iran war. Republicans expressed broad support for the reported negotiations led by President Donald Trump, while Democrats raised strong objections.

The debate played out across multiple Sunday morning talk shows. Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen said the reported framework resembled “the pre-war status quo” with Iran and called it a “blunder.”

Democratic Senator Cory Booker said the administration risked being outmanoeuvred in negotiations. Republican Representative Mike Lawler said the talks marked a shift in which Iranian authorities had been brought into “a real negotiation.”

Senator Bill Hagerty said any eventual agreement would include strict and enforceable terms to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

The discussions come amid ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that began on February 28, intensifying political debate over war powers and congressional oversight.
