The Central Intelligence Agency carried out a drone strike last week on a docking site reportedly used by Venezuelan drug cartels, according to two sources familiar with the operation who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The strike represents the first known direct U.S. action on Venezuelan soil since September, marking a clear escalation in Washington’s campaign of pressure against President Nicolás Maduro’s government.

Venezuelan authorities have yet to confirm the operation. President Donald Trump first mentioned it in an interview on Friday with John Catsimatidis on WABC radio in New York, describing the target as a “big facility where ships come from.”

On Monday, while hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump elaborated, saying the strike focused on a “dock area where they load the boats up with drugs.” When pressed on whether the military or the CIA carried out the attack, he declined to comment.

Officials from both the CIA and the White House declined further comment.
