US Iran War Costs Reach $25 Billion, Pentagon Official Says

United States military operations in Iran have cost approximately 25 billion US dollars to date, according to Jules Hurst, performing the duties of comptroller at the Pentagon. This marks the first official estimate of the conflict's financial impact.

Hurst told the House Armed Services Committee that most of the spending has been directed toward munitions. The disclosure comes as lawmakers press for clearer accounting of war-related spending.

Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the committee, noted that the figure had been requested for a "hell of a long time" without an answer until now.

The estimate carries significant political weight as the US approaches midterm elections in six months. Democrats have sought to link the conflict's costs to broader concerns over the cost of living.

The 25 billion US dollar figure is roughly equivalent to the entire annual budget of NASA for the current fiscal year.
