A U.S. immigration officer was arrested Wednesday in Minneapolis after allegedly shooting and killing a 37-year-old woman.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, rather than the actual killing, are still being debated by federal and local authorities.

The Department of Homeland Security has said that the deceased, Renee Nicole Good, was a "violent insurgent" who tried to ram an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer with her vehicle, and that the officer fired the shot "in self-defense."

However, city and state leaders, as well as Democratic Party officials, say that is far from the truth.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the incident as "an officer's reckless use of force that resulted in the death of a person," and called for the withdrawal of Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the city. Several video clips taken by witnesses in the area show the moment the shots were fired.

Protesters are seen on the sidewalk in the area; immigration officers are seen getting out of their vehicles, asking a woman sitting in her car to get out, and trying to force open the door.

The driver was shot as she attempted to drive away.
