The U.S. military announced on Tuesday that around 25 Islamic State operatives were killed or captured in Syria this month following an ambush that killed two U.S. troops and an American civilian interpreter.

U.S. Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East, said in a message on X that 11 missions were carried out over the past 10 days. These followed initial strikes on December 19 targeting 70 IS weapons and infrastructure sites across central Syria.

During the subsequent operations, U.S. forces, alongside regional partners including Syrian forces, killed at least seven IS members, detained additional individuals, and destroyed four weapons caches, Central Command said.

Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, said, "We will not relent. We are steadfast in our commitment to collaborating with regional partners to eliminate the ISIS threat to U.S. and regional security."

Targets included senior IS figures under close surveillance as well as lower-level fighters, according to a U.S. official who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive operations.
