US Forces Strike Iranian Military Sites for Eighth Consecutive Night

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out another round of strikes against Iranian military targets on July 18, hitting coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites as Washington continues operations aimed at weakening Iran’s military capacity. The strikes were conducted at 11:30pm Eastern Time under the direction of the US commander-in-chief and marked the eighth consecutive night of US military action against Iran, according to CENTCOM.

The command said US forces also targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) units that launched attacks against American service members in Jordan on July 17, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate across the Middle East. The latest operations follow a series of US strikes against Iranian military infrastructure, including systems linked to missile, drone and maritime capabilities. CENTCOM said the campaign is intended to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten US personnel and regional partners.

The confrontation has expanded beyond direct US-Iran tensions, with Iranian attacks and military activity affecting US interests and partners in the region. Washington has maintained a significant military presence across the Middle East, with more than 50,000 US service members currently deployed in the region. US officials have said the strikes are focused on protecting American forces and responding to attacks against them.

The latest escalation has raised concerns over wider regional instability, including potential disruptions to security and trade routes in the Middle East, where key maritime corridors play an important role in global energy and commercial flows. CENTCOM said US military assets remain on high alert and prepared to respond to further threats, describing forces operating in the region as “highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”

The ongoing conflict continues to have significant implications for regional security and global energy markets, with both sides engaged in sustained military operations. The situation remains highly fluid as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the tensions continue behind the scenes.
