The US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has appointed six officials to senior positions overseeing its internal operations, legal affairs, banking regulation and litigation.

Cynthia Sjoberg Radway was appointed deputy to the chairman and chief operating officer, putting her in charge of the agency’s internal operations. She previously served as chief financial officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and chief operating officer of the US Secret Service.

Janie Faulkner, a former staff director of the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, was appointed senior counsel to the chairman. She previously worked as a financial services lawyer at Covington & Burling and Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Michael Overmyer and Ryan Rappa were also appointed senior counsel to the chairman. Overmyer most recently served as senior special counsel in the FDIC’s Legal Division and previously worked on financial regulatory matters at JPMorgan Chase and Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Rappa previously served as senior adviser to the US Treasury Department’s under secretary for domestic finance. He also held a position as senior special counsel for complex financial institutions in the FDIC’s Legal Division and worked at Allen & Overy before entering public service.

Mark Buresh was appointed deputy general counsel for the Regulation and Policy Branch of the FDIC’s Legal Division. He joins the agency from the Federal Reserve Board, where he served as senior special counsel in the Banking Regulation and Policy Group.

Dean Conway was appointed deputy general counsel for the Litigation Branch. He previously worked in Carlton Fields’ securities litigation and enforcement practice and spent more than two decades at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, including as assistant chief litigation counsel.

The appointments bring experience from federal financial regulators, government agencies, the US Treasury Department and private-sector legal practices into the FDIC’s senior leadership.

The FDIC insures deposits at participating US banks and supervises financial institutions. Its responsibilities include protecting depositors and helping maintain stability and public confidence in the US banking system.
