On Monday, the United States accused Russia of a "dangerous and inexplicable escalation" in its nearly four-year conflict in Ukraine, coinciding with the Trump administration's efforts to promote peace negotiations.

Tammy Bruce, the U.S. deputy ambassador to the United Nations, specifically highlighted Russia's recent launch of a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile near Ukraine's border with Poland, a NATO member.

During an emergency session of the Security Council, she expressed that the United States is dismayed by "the staggering number of casualties" resulting from the conflict and condemned Russia's increasing assaults on energy and other critical infrastructure.

The meeting was convened at Ukraine's request following last Thursday's overnight Russian attack, which involved hundreds of drones and numerous missiles, including the powerful new hypersonic Oreshnik missile, marking its second use and serving as a clear warning to Kyiv's NATO allies.

The extensive assault occurred just days following the announcement by Ukraine and its allies of significant advancements in reaching an agreement on the defense strategies for the nation against additional aggression from Moscow, contingent upon the establishment of a U.S.-led peace agreement.
