US Authorises Federal Disaster Aid for Hawaii After Tropical Storm Nolo

The US government has authorised federal disaster assistance for Hawaii following emergency conditions caused by Tropical Storm Nolo, which began affecting the state on September 23.

The assistance will support response efforts across Hawaii County, Kauai County, Maui County and the City and County of Honolulu, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The presidential action directs FEMA to coordinate federal disaster relief efforts aimed at addressing the impacts of the storm, protecting lives and property, safeguarding public health and safety, and reducing the risk of further damage.

FEMA is authorised to identify, mobilise and provide equipment and other resources needed to respond to the emergency.

Emergency protective measures under the Public Assistance programme will be eligible for direct federal assistance at 75 percent federal funding.

Hirokazu Toiya has been appointed Federal Coordinating Officer to oversee federal response operations in the affected areas.

Further areas may receive federal assistance if requested by the state and supported by additional damage assessments.
