The United States has authorised up to 625 million US dollars in additional security assistance for Ukraine, including HIMARS rocket systems, artillery, mortar rounds and hundreds of armoured vehicles.

The package, approved through a presidential drawdown from US Department of Defense inventories, is intended to address Ukraine’s immediate defence and battlefield requirements.

The equipment includes four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and associated ammunition, 16 155mm howitzers, 75,000 155mm artillery rounds and 500 precision-guided 155mm rounds.

Washington will also provide 1,000 155mm rounds for Remote Anti-Armor Mine systems, 16 105mm howitzers, 30,000 120mm mortar rounds and 200 MaxxPro Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles.

The package includes 200,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition, obstacle-emplacement equipment and Claymore anti-personnel munitions.

The Pentagon said the latest authorisation was the Biden administration’s 22nd drawdown of military equipment from US inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.

The United States has committed more than 17.5 billion US dollars in security assistance to Ukraine since January 2021, according to the Department of Defense. Since 2014, total US security assistance to Ukraine has exceeded 19.6 billion US dollars, including more than 16.8 billion US dollars since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24.

Washington said it would continue working with allies and partners to provide Ukraine with military capabilities as its battlefield requirements evolve.
