The United States has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale worth 108.1 million US dollars to Ukraine. The package is designed to sustain the MIM-23 Hawk air defence system, a key medium-range surface-to-air missile platform in Ukraine’s layered defence network.

The aid includes logistics support, spare parts, maintenance services, technical assistance, and training. It aims to maintain operational readiness of the system amid ongoing missile and drone attacks.

The MIM-23 Hawk system, originally developed during the Cold War, has been modernised and remains in service with several countries. Ukraine began using the system in 2022 after receiving launchers from European partners.

According to U.S. officials, the deal will enhance Ukraine’s ability to respond to aerial threats without altering the regional military balance. It focuses on sustaining existing equipment rather than supplying new platforms.

The package includes refurbishment support for fire units, missile spare parts, testing equipment, and contractor technical services. This is part of a series of U.S. sustainment packages for Ukraine’s air defence systems.

The approval underscores Washington’s continued focus on maintaining Ukraine’s existing defence capabilities amid the ongoing conflict.
