A tentative agreement between the United States and Iran would extend their ceasefire by 60 days while easing restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, though the arrangement has yet to receive final approval from both sides.

The proposal includes provisions for unrestricted maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, alongside steps by the United States to lift its blockade on Iranian ports and ease some sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

Approval remains pending from US President Donald Trump, while Iranian state media said the agreement has not been finalized, leaving the outcome uncertain.

The talks come after renewed exchanges of attacks between the two countries despite a ceasefire that took effect in early April.

US Vice President JD Vance said negotiations were still ongoing. “We’re not there yet, but we’re very close and we’re going to keep on working at it.”
