New Commander Of Africa Command Confirms US Government Will Continue To Support Somalia In Its Fight Against Al-Shabaab And ISIS

The new commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu on Wednesday, pledging continued US support for Somalia in its fight against the Al-Shabaab and ISIS terrorist groups.

The general briefed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on AFRICOM's counterterrorism strategy for the Al-Shabaab and ISIS terrorist groups, and said Washington would strengthen its cooperation through airstrikes, intelligence sharing, military training, and extensive support to strengthen the Somali National Army, Hiran reported.

The report indicated that the discussion also covered the security situation in the Horn of Africa, the threat posed by cross-border armed groups, and the need for strong regional cooperation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the US Africa Command's partnership with Somalia. He also stressed his government's commitment to bringing peace and stability to Somalia and the region, as well as strengthening international cooperation.
