The United Republic of Tanzania and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have established a five-year industrial development partnership aimed at strengthening productive capacity, promoting investment and supporting sustainable industrial growth.

The Programme for Country Partnership (PCP), covering the period from 2026 to 2031, will provide a framework for collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, development partners and financial institutions in support of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 (Dira 2050).

The partnership is intended to align industrial reforms, financing mechanisms and strategic partnerships with national development priorities, with a focus on improving industrial governance, enhancing local value addition and expanding skills development.

UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller said the agreement would advance cooperation between the organisation and Tanzania by placing investment, trade opportunities and value creation at the centre of industrial transformation.

“Tanzania has established itself as one of the most dynamic economies in the region, and it has an ambitious vision for its sustainable industrial development future,” Müller said.

The initiative is expected to support efforts to attract investment, expand industrial opportunities and strengthen the country’s ability to participate in regional and global value chains.

Judith Salvio Kapinga, Tanzania’s Minister of Industry and Trade, said the partnership would support the implementation of Dira 2050 by creating a coordinated platform involving government, businesses and development partners.

Tanzania’s strategic location, including its role as a trade corridor linking East, Central and Southern Africa through infrastructure such as the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Central Corridor, provides opportunities for industrial expansion and regional market integration.

The PCP will also promote sustainable industrial development through circular economy approaches, sustainable energy solutions and resource-efficient production systems as Tanzania seeks to advance its industrial competitiveness.
