The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has criticised the United States for acting without accountability, asserting that its power often exceeds international law, according to remarks reported by the BBC.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s program Today, Guterres described U.S. proposals as reflecting "clear double standards" and said Washington frequently pursues solutions that prove ineffective. He characterised current policy as "utilizing American power and influence while gradually respecting international law."

Guterres highlighted the precarious position of allied nations, which are expected to uphold equality but now face significant pressure, particularly amid tensions surrounding Greenland. He noted that these countries perceive themselves as being under threat due to sustained U.S. actions.

Referring to global governance, Guterres emphasised that "there must be supremacy of law that is enforced by power," noting the international community’s expectation that this principle be upheld.
