Ukraine's military said on Tuesday that it had struck a Russian chemical plant with a British-made Storm Shadow missile.

The Ukrainian military, which described the strike as a "successful operation" that bypassed Russian air defenses, said it was assessing the damage caused by the "massive missile and air strike."

The Kremlin has warned the West against providing Ukraine with weapons capable of carrying out long-range strikes.

But Kiev says it is important to target Russian facilities that are key to Moscow's war in Ukraine.

"The Bryansk Chemical Plant is a key facility in the military-industrial complex of the occupied territory," the Ukrainian military said in a post on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

Added that the factory "produces gunpowder, explosives, rocket fuel components and missiles to strike Ukrainian territory."

Moscow authorities have not yet commented on the attack.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

It currently controls about 20 percent of Ukraine's territory, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
