The United Kingdom may detain asylum seekers in military camps, it has been revealed.

'The Times' reports that discussions have begun to detain asylum seekers in military camps in Scotland and southern England.

Previously, asylum seekers were accommodated in hotels until their cases were decided.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has ordered the Home Office and Defence ministries to urgently set up military camps to house asylum seekers.

The UK government has decided to end the practice of keeping asylum seekers in hotels, as it costs billions of pounds.

Plans are underway to move asylum seekers to Cameron Barracks military camp in Inverness, Scotland, and Crowborough military training camp in East Sussex by the end of next month.

Prime Minister Starmer said he was "committed" to closing all asylum seeker hotels.
