Burnham said his government was working to improve perceptions of the UK and that progress had been made, although more remained to be done, according to a statement from Downing Street.

On Ukraine, the leaders agreed that efforts should continue towards a ceasefire aimed at preventing further loss of life. Burnham reaffirmed UK support for Ukraine and backed recent US-led peace negotiations.

Their discussion also covered the Middle East, with Burnham reaffirming the UK’s commitment to regional peace and security. He stressed the importance of a two-state solution, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
