The United Kingdom will increase its financial support to Ukraine by 10 billion pounds sterling, including 500 million pounds sterling in additional military assistance, seven billion pounds sterling in economic support over three years and three billion pounds sterling in export finance capacity, the British government said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced the package during a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of a Cabinet meeting.

The additional military funding, provided through the Ministry of Defence, is intended to address urgent gaps in Ukraine’s air defences this winter, according to a statement released by the UK government.

The seven billion pounds sterling in economic support will be made available over three years, while the additional three billion pounds sterling in UK Export Finance capacity will be prioritised for military support, the statement said.

Starmer described the package as the largest financial commitment the UK had made to Ukraine, presenting it as part of the government’s effort to sustain the country’s defence against Russia’s invasion.

Reeves said the UK would continue to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin through further sanctions, with the aim of bringing him to the negotiating table.

The leaders also discussed the upcoming European Political Community meeting and agreed to use it to seek further support for Ukraine from European partners.
