Uganda’s DOTT Services Secures $28 Million in Afreximbank Financing

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has approved and activated a 28 million US dollar financing facility for Uganda-based engineering and construction company DOTT Services Limited, with disbursements under way to support its infrastructure project pipeline valued at more than 550 million US dollars.

The dual-tranche facility, provided through Afreximbank’s EPC Contract Promotion Initiative, will support the company in executing existing contracts and pursuing near-term opportunities in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The financing is intended to strengthen DOTT Services’ capacity to undertake large-scale infrastructure projects across the region, while addressing funding constraints faced by African engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors seeking cross-border contracts.

Humphrey Nwugo, director of regional operations at Afreximbank’s Eastern Africa office, said the facility was part of the bank’s efforts to develop African contractors capable of delivering major infrastructure projects.

He said local commercial banks often lacked the capacity to finance regional projects because of the associated cross-border risks, while international banks tended to prioritise non-African contractors. This had left African companies with limited access to financing for large infrastructure contracts, he added.

Afreximbank’s EPC Contract Promotion Initiative seeks to address the financing gap through funding, partnerships, matchmaking and letters of support to help African contractors secure and execute projects across the continent.

DOTT Services has operated in Africa for 28 years, with activities in Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Zambia and DR Congo. It also has offices in Italy and the UK and employs more than 6,000 people.

The company procures and distributes construction materials and equipment, including bitumen, asphalt, steel, spare parts and heavy machinery, across African markets.

Afreximbank said the partnership would support infrastructure development and facilitate trade in goods and services between African countries.
