The United Arab Emirates has halted all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, amid heightened regional tensions.

Afra Al Hameli, director of the ministry's Strategic Communications Department, rejected allegations about the state of the UAE's economic relationship with Iran but said commercial and financial activity had been suspended in response to regional developments that threaten international peace and security.

Al Hameli said the UAE remained committed to dialogue, cooperation and regional integration as mechanisms for promoting peace, stability and economic prosperity.

She also said the UAE would continue to uphold the integrity of the international financial system and comply with international law and global standards.

The announcement signals a suspension of economic activity between two countries that have maintained significant commercial links despite longstanding political tensions in the region.
