Tulsi Gabbard has stepped down as US Director of National Intelligence. Her resignation takes effect on June 30, citing her husband Abraham Williams’ diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer.

In a message on X, she said she could not ask her husband to face the fight alone while continuing in the demanding post. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve over the past year and a half.

President Trump praised her service and said Principal Deputy Director Aaron Lukas will serve as acting director. However, sources familiar with the matter indicated she was forced out by the White House.

Her departure comes after reported tensions, including differences over Iran policy. Reuters had earlier reported she could be replaced in a broader cabinet reshuffle.

The resignation marks the end of Gabbard’s tenure at the top of the US intelligence community and sets up a leadership transition during a sensitive period.

Trump described her exit as driven by family health reasons, while praising her performance in office.
