Approximately 4,000 buildings in Kyiv were without heat on Wednesday, and nearly 60% of the Ukrainian capital experienced power outages, as stated by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This situation follows several days of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power infrastructure, coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump’s preparations to engage in discussions with the Ukrainian leader.

Delegates from Trump’s administration were also anticipated to arrive in Moscow later this week for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As temperatures plummet to as low as minus 20 C (minus 4 F) in Kyiv, Ukraine is enduring one of its coldest winters in years, exacerbating the difficulties faced by Ukrainians nearly four years after Russia initiated a full-scale invasion.

Despite a yearlong effort by the Trump administration to halt the conflict, no significant progress has been made, even though the American president has set a series of deadlines; however, attempts to resolve the situation are expected to persist.

Trump announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that he is scheduled to meet with Zelenskyy on Thursday.

"I want to put an end to it," Trump remarked regarding the conflict.

"It is a dreadful war." U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff informed The Associated Press on Wednesday that he intends to engage in discussions about peace proposals with Putin and also conduct talks with a Ukrainian delegation.
