President Donald Trump was awarded the newly established FIFA Peace Prize on Friday during the draw for the 2026 World Cup, an event that sets the matchups for the quadrennial tournament.

The prize, introduced by FIFA this year, was widely expected to go to Trump, who had publicly expressed interest in receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino, a close associate of Trump, presented the award, citing the former president’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza. Infantino said the medal was “a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”

Trump accepted the medal and certificate, which recognised him for his work to “promote peace and unity around the world.” He was also presented with a gold trophy bearing his name and featuring a design of hands lifting the globe.

“You certainly merit the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize for your actions and the achievements you have made in your own way,” Infantino said, following a video montage highlighting Trump’s engagements with world leaders from countries where he has claimed to have resolved conflicts.
