US President Donald Trump has said that some television stations could have their licenses "taken away".

The president made the remarks in support of the US media regulator's decision to ban ABC host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Disney-owned network announced on Wednesday that it was suspending the comedian's talk show "indefinitely" following controversy over Jimmy Kimmel's comments on the killing of conservative Charlie Kirk.

On Monday, Kimmel said the suspect was a pro-Trump Republican, while Utah officials said the man was "immersed in left-wing ideology."

ABC has suspended its "Jimmy Kimmel Live" program after the Federal Communications Commission warned it would take action over the comedian's comments.
