President Donald Trump is set to convene some of the world’s most influential technology executives at the White House on Thursday for discussions on artificial intelligence, as reported by Bloomberg.
Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Apple’s Tim Cook and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella are expected to attend, alongside OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, Alphabet’s Sergey Brin and Sundar Pichai, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, a White House official told Bloomberg. Alexandr Wang, who recently joined Meta’s AI division, has also been invited.
The meeting, which will take place in the recently refurbished Rose Garden, follows the launch of First Lady Melania Trump’s “presidential challenge” designed to promote student use of AI in tackling local issues and to encourage teachers to integrate the technology in classrooms.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said the gathering would serve as a platform for regular engagement between the president and senior business leaders. “The president looks forward to welcoming top business, political, and tech leaders for this dinner and the many dinners to come,” he told The Hill, which first reported the event.
Companies approached for comment were reticent. Meta and OpenAI declined to respond, while Microsoft, Apple and Alphabet did not immediately return requests for comment, Bloomberg reported.
The event comes as Washington signals a shift in policy on AI chip exports. Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices have indicated they will resume limited sales to China after receiving assurances from the US government, easing earlier restrictions aimed at constraining Beijing’s technological ambitions.
