U.S. President Donald Trump filed a 5 billion US dollars lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase & Co. and its chief executive, Jamie Dimon, in Miami‑Dade County state court, alleging the bank closed his accounts for political reasons, Reuters reported.

The complaint, filed by Trump’s attorney Alejandro Brito, cites the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack as the backdrop for the alleged “debanking,” and claims the closures disrupted operations for Trump and his affiliated businesses. Trump had publicly announced over the weekend that he intended to sue JPMorgan within two weeks over the alleged account terminations.

The lawsuit asserts trade libel, breach of the implied covenant of good faith, and violations of Florida’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act. It also alleges that JPMorgan discouraged other financial institutions from servicing Trump and his organisations.

JPMorgan did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters. In prior statements cited by the bank, it said it does not close accounts for political reasons, taking such actions only when legal or regulatory risks are involved.

Trump’s filing adds to his ongoing legal efforts surrounding what he describes as politically motivated restrictions on financial services, including a similar case against Capital One filed in 2025.
