On Sunday, President Donald Trump asserted that Ukraine and Russia are now "closer than ever before" to reaching a peace agreement, as he welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to his resort in Florida.

However, he recognized that the negotiations are intricate and may still falter, potentially prolonging the conflict for years.

The president's remarks followed a meeting between the two leaders, which came after what Trump described as an "excellent" two-and-a-half-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This call occurred in the context of the ongoing war, which began nearly four years ago with Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Trump expressed his belief that Putin still desires peace, despite Russia initiating another series of attacks on Ukraine while Zelenskyy was en route to the United States for further negotiations.

During a late afternoon press conference, Trump stated, "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed," while standing alongside Zelenskyy after their discussions.

He consistently commended his counterpart, referring to him as "brave."

Following their discussion, they reached out to a broad array of European leaders, which included Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, as well as the leaders of Finland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland.
