US President Donald Trump has said he doesn't think the US and Venezuela will go to war.

"I doubt there will be a war; I don't think there will be. But they are hurting us very badly," Trump said in an interview with CBS.

Although he said he did not think war would break out, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said his stay in power would be "short-lived."

The United States continued to attack boats it said were smuggling drugs near the Caribbean.

Trump has said that he has a duty to take action to limit the flow of drugs into the United States.

Many are accusing the United States of attacking Venezuela not to stop drug trafficking but to overthrow the Maduro government.

Trump dismissed the criticism, saying the attacks were carried out "for many reasons."
