U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he discussed proposals to end the war in Ukraine with European leaders in "quite strong terms."

Trump stressed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "must be realistic" about Kyiv’s position on any peace plan.

Amid rising tensions over a U.S.-backed resolution, the leaders of Germany, Britain, and France reportedly spoke with Trump by phone and requested a meeting this weekend involving the U.S. and Ukraine. "We will make a determination based on their feedback," Trump told reporters at the White House.

Earlier, Zelenskyy indicated that Ukraine planned to present its latest peace proposals to U.S. negotiators on Wednesday, ahead of urgent discussions on Thursday with leaders and officials from around 30 countries supporting Kyiv’s efforts to secure a favourable end to the conflict with Russia. The White House did not respond to requests for confirmation on Wednesday.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron have described the negotiations as being at a "pivotal juncture."
