Several European leaders were also traveling to attend the meeting, which came just days after Trump and Putin's Alaska summit ended without a ceasefire.
Despite Trump's hopeful words and positive reviews from some European countries, there was no concrete commitment to provide security guarantees or to conclude a peace agreement as of Monday evening.
Following the speech, Trump said on his Twitter account that he had called Putin and invited him to speak with Zelensky.
