U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration may impose tariffs on countries opposing his plan to acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.

Speaking at a White House gathering, Trump said, “We can impose tariffs on countries that do not agree with our position regarding Greenland.” He did not specify which nations could face such measures.

Denmark, Greenland, and several European countries have publicly opposed the proposed acquisition. Meanwhile, 11 members of the U.S. Congress reportedly traveled to the region to express support for the initiative.

Trump has framed Greenland as vital to U.S. national security, describing the situation as either “a simple way” or “a serious situation” requiring American attention. Discussions have also considered both financial acquisition and the potential for an increased U.S. military presence in the territory.
