TBK Trading PLC has introduced the GreenTech device, a technology designed to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions by up to 97% and improve fuel efficiency by as much as 30%. The initiative comes with the backing of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics as the government steps up enforcement of Directive 1051/2017, which requires all vehicles on public roads to meet emission standards or install approved emission-control devices.
Installed inside the vehicle’s fuel tank, the GreenTech device employs advanced nanotechnology and a ceramic component to convert engine heat into electromagnetic radiation, enhancing fuel combustion efficiency. The technology is compatible with a broad range of vehicles, from motorcycles to heavy machinery.
The device has undergone four years of domestic testing, including trials on public transport buses. Operators such as Awash Insurance report improvements in safety and fuel economy after fitting GreenTech to their fleets. However, experts caution that these benefits depend on correct installation and ongoing maintenance. Independent verification of the device’s effectiveness remains pending.
The Ministry has signaled strict enforcement, with non-compliance carrying penalties including a minimum three-month ban on vehicle operation. This follows growing concern over air pollution’s health impact, with Ethiopian health officials linking over 811,000 respiratory illnesses between 2020 and 2025 to vehicle emissions.
