The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has indicated that renewed conflict could emerge from ongoing issues with the federal government, while reaffirming its willingness to engage in dialogue.

On January 30, 2025, the TPLF posted a letter on its official social media page addressed to the African Union Commission, affirming its commitment to "peace and reconciliation" and emphasizing its consistent readiness for dialogue.

The legality of the TPLF, currently suspended by the electoral board, has prompted the African Union Commission to call on all parties involved in the Tigray conflict to halt their actions.

During a press briefing on Friday, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmud Ali Yusuf urged both the Federal Government and the TPLF to "engage in high-level discussions" to address the situation in the region.

The Commission also highlighted the gravity of the humanitarian crises in areas surrounding Tigray, describing them as "extremely concerning."

TPLF Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael stressed that dialogue remains the only viable path to resolving disputes with the federal government. In his letter, he wrote, "It is essential to engage in a constructive dialogue regarding the challenges, opportunities, and outcomes," signalling confidence that the African Union will spearhead the initiative.
