Somali police have arrested four TikTokers who allegedly mocked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in a dance video.

Several young Somalis have been seen dancing to music they say is being used to campaign for the 2022 presidential election, with lyrics that include swearing.

Police said in a statement that the suspects are in custody and will be charged.

The TikTokers have not commented since their arrest.

Recently, several of the country's social media influencers have been arrested for spreading racial slurs, inciting violence on TikTok, or sharing "immoral" content.

This is the first arrest involving a high-ranking politician.

In August 2016, a court in Mogadishu sentenced seven TikTokers to six months in prison for inciting public unrest and spreading immoral content.
