TikTok announced it will block all candidates in Thailand’s upcoming election from paying for advertising or monetising their content during the campaign period, which runs up to the February 8 vote.

The platform already prohibits political advertising and revenue generation from politically branded content. Under the new measure, these restrictions will extend to the accounts of all candidates, preventing them from using TikTok’s paid promotion or creator monetisation tools during the election.

The decision aligns with TikTok’s broader global policy, which bars paid political advertising to ensure the platform is not used to amplify specific campaigns or candidates financially. Accounts linked to politicians and parties may also lose access to tipping, gifting, or other monetisation features to prevent indirect fundraising.

In some countries, TikTok has also introduced election information hubs to provide verified voting guidance and combat misinformation. Experts say these steps reflect a wider trend among social media platforms to restrict political content monetisation while maintaining voter education initiatives.
