The President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede, has stated that the "National Election Board's decision to revoke the legal personality of the TPLF is unacceptable and called for a political solution."
"TPLF is not an ordinary party that can be easily dismissed as a mere creation," the president said, emphasizing that the issue cannot be resolved through bureaucratic means alone, but through a political solution.
Most Tigray intellectuals, including those in the opposition, have stated that they have had ties to the TPLF, calling the organization a "historic party" and saying that its dissolution is "unacceptable."
The interim president also said that the dispute between the Electoral Board and the TPLF should be resolved through negotiations.
The party, "despite receiving a certificate from the Electoral Board, negotiations are the only lasting solution," he told regional media.
It is known that the Election Board revoked the legal personality of the TPLF in May 2025 after it failed to implement the "corrective measures" ordered by the board to meet its standards, including holding a general assembly, within six months.
At the time, the TPLF rejected the decision, saying that the party's legitimacy was guaranteed by the Pretoria Ceasefire Agreement, not a framework based on the Electoral Board's preconditions.
